How far in advance do I need to apply?

We suggest reserving your spot at least 60 days prior to your desired start date. Many of our projects fill up quickly, and although we do accept applications within 60 days of the start date, we can’t guarantee a placement. And we hate to disappoint!

Do you have a minimum or maximum age for volunteers?

In general, volunteers must be 18 to participate independently on our projects. If travelling with a parent or guardian, the minimum age is 8 years old. There is no maximum age.

We specialize in teen volunteering for those aged 14-18 who wish to travel independently or as part of a school group. However all teens must complete a legal guardian consent form at the time of application.

And some of our local team and Partners have disabilities – we’re proud to maintain an inclusive environment for everyone. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have a disability and are interested in volunteering.

Do many volunteers apply and travel independently?

They sure do! Actually most of our volunteers travel solo, or independently, but they are never really alone – they can always access the help of our team members who are available every step of the way. You can rest assured that our volunteer projects in Jamaica are safe and that you will always have an incredible and supportive team of in-country staff to rely on. Many of our volunteers who travel independently are glad they decided to go it alone from start to finish. Why? Simply because they meet other like-minded volunteers and get the chance to make new friends – whether it’s one of our own local staff members or a local from the community. Once you arrive at your destination of choice, you become a part of the family!
