Over the course of a week or even months, depending on how long you decide to volunteer abroad, you’ll get to know and become part of a community. You’ll feel like you’re part of extended family as everyone looks out for you. At Jamaica Volunteer Expeditions our volunteer abroad programs are based in small local communities along the north coast including Negril, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios as well as the lush Blue and John Crow Mountains and Mandeville.
Volunteering in Jamaica can be very fulfilling no matter what volunteer project you choose, but if the project speaks to you on a personal and emotional level, you’ll take more out of it. You may choose to volunteer abroad in Jamaica working with children, supporting the environment & conservation efforts, or helping improve the quality of disabled care. Each of these volunteer projects will challenge you and put you in positions you’ve never been in before such as working without resources you’re accustomed to, witnessing firsthand the challenges faced by local Jamaicans and your host community.
After you’ve completed your time volunteering daily, you’ll get the opportunity to experience Jamaica’s wonderful culture, sights, and nature. For example, in Montego Bay, you can learn about Rastafarians, attend a music festival, swim or snorkel at Doctor’s Cave Beach, raft along the beautiful Martha Brae river and explore lush tropical rainforest.
You’ll return home with not only a new lease on life, but a new understanding and appreciation of your own.
