Do you love teaching or simply have a passion for working with young people? We have loads of volunteer teaching abroad programs and assistant teaching programs.
The students you’ll meet on our placements are excited to learn from you and you’ll find them welcoming you with opening arms. You’ll find the students very intrigued to understand where you’re from, your interest and to learn about your culture.
In Jamaica students are struggling to acquire basic literacy and numeracy skills due to teachers being under-resourced. There are not enough (if any) remedial programs and most families can’t afford the tuition to send their children to school. As a volunteer teaching assistant you will be providing conversational English teaching as our local dialect “Patios” is primarily spoken by the students. Jamaica Volunteer Expedition ensures that our teaching placements are meaningful and improves the skills of the students by ensuring the guidance and support of the local teaching staff who will provide you with ideas, teaching games and advice.
Based on your interest you may have to pay special attention to students who fail to master their ABC’s and 1-2-3’s in over-crowded and under-resourced classrooms. Your volunteer teaching experience will include creating in-class and outdoor activities that helps to develop the students skills and creativity. We encourage to bring supplies if you can such as pencils, crayons and so forth. We place volunteers in Jamaica at Basic schools (ages 3-6) and Primary schools (ages 6-12). Just tell us what you want and we’ll find a volunteer project where you can make a difference in the classroom, and beyond.
